About six genera and 70 species, native to warm temperate and dry subtropical regions, with two genera and four species native to southern Africa, one species naturalised and an additional three species that are cultivated in the region.

Oligomeris

Three species, native to Africa, Canary Islands, North America, southwestern Asia and western India, with one species, Oligomeris linifolia accounting for the distribution across continents (including southern Africa) and the remaining two species endemic to southern Africa. An additional species is naturalised in the region.

 

Reseda (mignonettes)

Sixty-eight species, native to the Mediterranean region, Macronesia, Africa, Arabian Peninsula eastwards to northwestern India. One species, Reseda lutea (Wild mignonette), is native to southern Africa and an additional three species are cultivated in the region.
