Ferns are still widely referred to as
pteridophytes (in the Pteridophyta) but this term includes not only
the groups above but also the groups in the
Lycopodiophyta. The latest
phylogenetic analyses, using molecular and morphological
information, show that the Pteridophyta is paraphyletic.
