There are 13 genera and 195 species (pantropical to warm temperate, mainly New World), of which two genera and eight species are indigenous to southern Africa. These genera were previously placed in the Scrophulariaceae.

Lindernia

About 80 species, native to Europe and Africa, with 7 species in southern Africa.

 

Torenia

About 40 species, native to the tropics, mainly SE Asia, Indian Ocean islands, and Africa. One species, Torenia thouarsii, is indigenous to southern Africa.
