Ixia cochlearis

Life > eukaryotes > Archaeoplastida > Chloroplastida > Charophyta > Streptophytina > Plantae (land plants) > Tracheophyta (vascular plants) > Euphyllophyta > Lignophyta (woody plants) > Spermatophyta (seed plants) > Angiospermae (flowering plants) > Monocotyledons > Order: Asparagales > Family: Iridaceae > Genus: Ixia

Distribution and habitat

Occurs or occurred on the slopes of the Jonkershoek and Banhoek Mountains near Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa (de Vos, 1999a), but has not been recorded since 1946  (von Staden, 2012).

Phenology

Flowers in November (de Vos, 1999a).

Conservation status

Data Deficient - Insufficient Information (von Staden, 2012). However, the available evidence suggests that it has a very limited distribution in a habitat that has been largely transformed to pine plantations. It has not been seen for over 65 years despite searching, but it might re-appear after a burn or felling of plantations.
