A family of mainly aquatic plants containing 10 genera and 1160 species (pantropical, extending into temperate regions), with two genera and 13 species indigenous to southern Africa.

Eriocaulon

About 250-400 species (tropical and subtropical), with 12 species indigenous to southern Africa.

 

Syngonanthus

About 80 species (mainly South American but also Africa), with one species, Syngonanthus wahlbergii, indigenous to southern Africa (Limpopo and Mpumalanga).
