Ipomoea (Morning Glory and Sweet Potato genus)

About 500 species, found worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions, with 56 species native to southern Africa. 

Ipomoea looks similar to Convolvulus but differs in not having the stigma linearly divided.

Ipomoea batatas (Sweet Potato)

Sweet potatoes originate from Central and South America where they were already being cultivated by 2500 BC. 

Ipomoea cairica (Messina Creeper)

Ipomoea purpurea (Common Morning Glory)

 Two species of Tortoise Beetle feed on Morning Glory leaves in the larval and adult stages. These are the Fool's Gold Beetle Aspidomorpha tecta and the Spotted Tortoise Beetle Conchyloctenia punctata
