Thirteen species worldwide of which three are native to southern Africa. Previously placed in the Lemnaceae.

Lemna aequinoctialis

Distribution in southern Africa includes Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Free State). See Flora of Zimbabwe.
