About 150 species, found worldwide in warm and tropical regions. There are 15 species in southern Africa.

Dicliptera capensis

Annual, occasionally perennial, herb, growing to height of 0.5 m. Distribution in southern Africa: South Africa > Eastern Cape

 

Dicliptera clinopodia

Perennial shrub or herb, growing to height of 1.2 m. See Pooley (1998: 436); Onderstall (1984: 184). Distribution in southern Africa: South Africa > Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo; Swaziland.

Dicliptera divaricata

Perennial herb growing to height of 0.45 m. Distribution in southern Africa: South Africa > KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga; Swaziland

Perennial dwarf shrub or herb, growing to height of 0.6 m. See van Wyk & Malan (1997: 188). Distribution in southern Africa: South Africa > Limpopo, North West, Gauteng; Namibia

Dicliptera extenta

Annual or perennial herb, growing to height of 0.6 m. Distribution in southern Africa: South Africa > Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo; Swaziland.

Perennial herb growing to height of 0.3 m. Distribution in southern Africa: South Africa > Limpopo

 

Dicliptera fruticosa

Perennial herb growing to height of 1.5 m. Distribution in southern Africa: South Africa > Mpumalanga, Limpopo.

Perennial herb growing to height of 1.5 m. See Pooley (1998: 436). Distribution in southern Africa: South Africa > Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo; Swaziland.
